The Ewiiaapaayp Band of Kumeyaay Indians is a federally recognized Indian tribe listed pursuant to the Tribal List Act of 1994 (Pub. L. 93–638, §2, Jan. 4, 1975, 88 Stat. 2203 et seq) 25 U.S.C. 479a-1 (Title 1 of Pub. L. 103-454, Nov. 2, 1994, 108 Stat. 4791).
The Ewiiaapaayp Indian Reservation was reserved for the Tribe from aboriginal Indian lands beginning on February 10, 1891, following the executive order of January 12, 1891, and Act of the U.S. Congress (26 Stat. 712 - 714 c.65), with the last acquisition adding lands to the Big Ewiiaapaayp section of 5,460.13 acres in the Laguna Mountains of east San Diego County, California near Mt. Laguna on December 27, 2000 by the California Indian Land Transfer Act of 2000 (PL 106-568), and additions to the “Little Ewiiaapaayp” section in the unincorporated community of Alpine, east San Diego County, California, of 10.02 acres acquired in trust for the benefit of the Tribe conveyed to trust status on April 1, 1986 for 8.6 acres and October 9, 1997 for 1.42 acres. The Little Ewiiaapaayp section is leased to the Southern Indian Health Council, Inc., a consortium of seven Tribes, including EBKI, delivering general practice, ambulatory health care under contract with the Indian Health Services.
